Scientists discover an enzyme that can Eliminate plastic wastes

Scientists have accidentally discovered a mutant enzyme that can fully eat up and decompose common plastic, and could help the world solve the problem of plastic waste. Researchers in the US and UK examined an existing enzyme which had occurred naturally in landfill sites and was able to slowly digest man-made plastics. But in the course of testing the enzyme's origins, the researchers made biological changes to it that turbo-charged its ability to digest plastics, according to Britain's University of Portsmouth . According to The Guardian , the enzyme starts breaking down plastic in a matter of days, a process which would take centuries under normal conditions. The enzyme is called PETase, because it eats polyethylene terephthalate (PET), the lightweight plastic used in bottled water and soft drinks. OSINBAJO DECRIES HUGE EXODUS OF DOCTORS FROM NIGERIA

The Vice President of Nigeria, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, on Monday decried the way Nigerian doctors are leaving the country in droves saying the government now has an opportunity to bring back the doctors. Mr. Osinbajo, who spoke at the 60th-anniversary celebration of the University College Hospital, UCH, Ibadan, said that the dismal levels of job satisfaction caused by poor healthcare system in Nigeria were responsible for the “alarming” brain drain in the country’s health sector. The vice president’s remarks comes a few days after the Chairman, Nigerian Medical Association, NMA, Lagos State branch, Olumuyiwa Odusote, lamented the exodus of doctors from Nigeria. Herdsman and 15 Cows killed in fresh Benue attack

The nigerian Police on Tuesday, March 5, 2018, confirmed that unknown gunmen killed a Fulani herdsman and 15 cows at Rafin-Bauna community of Iregwe land in Bass Local Government Area of Plateau. Terna Tyopev, the spokesman of the Police Command in the state said in Jos that the incident happened at about 5:30 p.m on Monday. Lagos Ranked the 3 Least Livable City in the World

Lagos has been ranked third among the 10 least liveable cities in the world. This was contained in the 2018 Global Liveability Index released by The Economist Intelligence Unit and World Bank. The report, which rated Lagos 138th of the 140 cities on earth, said it based the report on 5 parameters. It cited the criteria to be political and social stability, education, culture, environment, infrastructure and access to healthcare. In the report obtained by The Guardian yesterday, Lagos was rated 37.5% and 33.3% in healthcare and education. It said Lagos recorded 53.5% in culture and environment and 46.4% in infrastructure. According to the report, the only cities, which were scored lower than Lagos on the ranking, were Syria and Bangladesh, while Vienna, the Austrian capital, was ranked the most liveable city in the world. FOUR FAKE SARS MEN, ROBBERS KILLED IN RIVERS STATE

Four Criminals parading themselves as operatives of the Federal S pecial Anti-Robbery Squad SARS have been gunned down in port harcourt Rivers State. The suspects were killed by SARS on Saturday, December 16, at Ogbogoro community in the Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State following a distress call from an unidentified member of the public. This was as armed robbers, who operated around the Ileabuchi area of Mile 2 Diobu, Port Harcourt City, on Saturday night, killed a policeman in the area, leaving a local vigilante member and other persons with bullet wounds. It was learnt that the vigilante member and the other persons, who were hit by bullets, had been hospitalised.
