BREAKING: Buhari Declares to Run for President 2019

President Muhammadu Buhari has declared the intention to run for the second term after months of speculation. The President said this on Monday at a meeting of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) leadership. The national publicity secretary of the APC, Bolaji Abdullahi and the Chief Whip, House of Representatives, Alhassan Ado Doguwa confirmed this while addressing journalists in Abuja after the NEC meeting. The NEC meeting is attended by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Senate President Bukola Saraki, Speaker of the House of Representatives Yakubu Dogara and other APC governors. FOUR DIE AFTER DRINKING OGOGORO IN IMO STATE

Four people have reportedly died in Imo state after consuming locally-made alcohol, also called   Ogogoro . The incident occurred at a drinking joint at Imerienwe community, owned by one  Uwadiegwu Eze , in Ngor-Okpala local government area of the state last week. Agbara Emma, a community leader, said the victims started complaining of stomach pain few minutes after taking the drink and that the story changed by Saturday. He gave the names of those who died as  Chibuzor Nwosu, Ifeanyi Nkwocha, Ada Danganer  and  Friday Osuji. Three men and a woman. The community leader added that Chinonso Amadi, Nnadi Ike, Udoka Ukaegbu, Fineboy Ekeocha, Chiaka Ukaegbu, Onyemauche Igbo, Aboy Amadi, among others, survived after taking the gin. MAN CAUGHT IN CROSS RIVER WITH GUNS BURIED IN GARRI

A man has been nabbed at a motor park in Obudu, Crops River with pistols buried in bag of garri. The suspect identified as 32-year- old Emmanuel Akamabe, resident at Ranch Road in Obudu was arrested on Tuesday morning at the Obudu Motor Park by Mr. Martin Umbie, the Chairman of  National Union of Road Transport Workers NURTW. He was found with two Barreta pistols, two empty magazines and two live rounds, hidden in a bag of garri. The suspect claims he was taking the arms on an errand for one Mr. Ezekiel Bala, also known as, GUN RUNNER, from Wukari, Taraba state to deliver to a client with GSM  08036695154 in Calabar.  -CrossRiverWatch

ZIMBABWE: FORMER VP EMMERSON TO REPLACE MOGABE

Emmerson Mnangagwa, a former vice president of Zimbabwean , who was sacked by Robert Mugabe, would be sworn in Wednesday, media reports say. Local media and Zimbabwean sources said Mr. Mnangagwa would be sworn in within 48hours that's Wednesday to replace Mr. Mugabe who resigned on Tuesday after 37-years in office as president. The 75-year-old was removed from office and exiled 13 days after Mr. Mugabe accused him of disloyalty and insubordination. Mr. Mugabe had reportedly taken the action to pave way for his wife, Grace, to emerge as the new leader of ruling Zanu-PF ahead of the country’s general election next year. Mr. Mnangagwa is said to be popular amongst the powerful War Veterans group and the Zimbabwean military chiefs. The ruling party is said to have adopted Mr Mnangagwa as their candidate for the next years Presidential elections.

Catholics return to CAN After 5 years of Absence

Catholics return to CAN after five years absence. The Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria, CSN, has returned to the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, after five years of walking out of the national Christian Umbrella body in the country over some irreconcilable differences with the leadership. Vanguard recalls that Catholic Bishops had in a letter dated September 24, 2012 which was signed by their President, Archbishop Ignatius Kaigama, and addressed to the then CAN President, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, announced the withdrawal of the Catholic church from the organisation. However, in 2017, Kaigama led a delegation from the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria, CBCN, to the CAN National secretariat where, in a meeting with the CAN President, Rev Dr Samson Ayokunle and his team, they addressed the identified grey areas and fashioned out wways of addressing them. At Last a Nigerian University Ranks among worlds best

Nigeria's premier University, The University of Ibadan has secured a spot in the top 978 ranked universities in the world. In the ranking released by the Times Higher Education, The university was ranked 801 alongside several others. UI was also the only Nigerian university to make the list. Earlier in 2016, the Academic Ranking of World Universities (AWRU) and the Center for World Universities Ranking (CWUR) released a list of the top 500 and 1000 world universities respectively and no Nigerian university was on the list. CWUR said that Nigerian universities were not considered for the ranking because of lack of quality research. AWRU, who did not give a reason for Nigeria’s absence, made it clear that the criteria for ranking were the number of alumni and staff publishing journals in Nature and Science, number of alumni and staff winning Nobel prizes and Field medals.
