OVER 20 PEOPLE DIE FROM FIRE EXPLOSION AT AN ILLEGAL OIL REFINERY IN BAYELSA

20 people  at least have reportedly been killed at an illegal refinery at Kolo Creek in the Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State and many others were said to have suffered varying degrees of buruns due to the explosion

It was alleged that te JTF, Operation Delta Safe, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, security outfits directly in charge of checking illegal bunkering, pipeline vandalism and illegal refineries, have had knowledge of the camp but allegedly failed to stop its operation ever since.

According to reports, tragedy struck in the camp near the creeks of Ebelebiri and Otuogwe when it exploded on December 5, 2017 and went up in flames. Community sources claimed that an attempt by a woman in the camp to cook noodles, using a stove, sparked the fire that caused the havoc.

An eyewitness described it as tragic, unspeakable and avoidable.  “When we got there, I almost vomited. I saw charred remains of people. They were burnt beyond recognition. In some cases, you could only see heads and feet of victims. Despite the burnt bodies, we still met people illegally cooking crude oil there. We thought that security agencies, especially the military, would have taken over the place, but we didn’t meet any security operatives. We only met people who were still refining illegally bunkered crude oil. It was that bad and terrible.”

It was gathered that the camp, allegedly owned by a powerful cartel, had been in operation for a long time. Investigation, however, revealed that the state police command had earlier appealed to security agencies in charge of oil theft, especially the NSCDC and the JTF, to clamp down on the site and arrest the operators.  A police source told newsmen that the Commissioner of Police uncovered the existence of the camp through intelligence gathering and warned of dire consequences.

The source said the commissioner had, in September, allegedly dispatched a letter to security commanders in charge of oil theft, appealing to them to treat the matter with urgency.  He quoted some parts of the letter as saying, “Information gathered revealed that the presence of ongoing illegal refining of petroleum products such as kerosene, diesel at Ebelebiri and Otuogwe, two communities in the Ogbia LGA of Bayelsa State, under the Kolo jurisdiction.  “The activities of these criminals constitute economic sabotage to the nation as well as endangering lives and properties as explosion on this pipeline may lead to disaster”. NO AUTOMATIC TICKET FOR BUHARI 2019–TINUBU

Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the National Leader of the APC , says there will be no automatic ticket for President Buhari to run as APC's presidential candidate in 2019 as the party would follow the normal democratic process of conducting a primary to elect its presidential flagbearer.  Speaking after a meeting with members of pan-Yoruba group, Afenifere, in Ondo state earlier today, Tinubu said the leadership of the party had not endorsed President Buhari as its sole candidate for the forthcoming presidential election. His statement was against the recent endorsement of President Muhammadu as the sole candidate of the APC for the 2019 election by  APC governors. Tinubu's comment comes after Imo state governor, Rochas Okorocha, declared his support for President Buhari to run for a second term in office “No governors can appropriate the power of endorsement to themselves. Buhari is a believer in the process. The Buhari, I know, believes in the rule of law. ...

10 Reasons why the Church should involve in politics

Recent events have raised the issue, Should the pulpit always avoid politics? It depends on what we mean by “politics;” it demeans the pulpit to use it for partisan politics. But here are ten reasons why I don’t think politics and religion should (or even can) be completely separate: 1) The Word of God has something to say about all of life, beyond just the spiritual. My long-time pastor, Dr. D. James Kennedy, once noted that the Church of Jesus Christ has always been opposed to abortion—from the very beginning. It still is. In the last generation, abortion has become a “political” issue. Does that mean, asked Dr. Kennedy, we should now ignore it in the pulpit? No, because the Bible is pro-life. 2) The Bible itself addresses the issue of governing in different texts. There are biblical books dealing with political rulers—1 and 2 Samuel, 1 and 2 Kings, Judges. In Genesis and in Daniel, we see godly men serving well in pagan courts, for the good of all. In Romans 13 and 1...

JOIN POLITICS AND STOP COMPLAINING ABOUT BAD LEADERSHIP–OSINBAJO TO YOUTHS

The Vice-President of Nigeria Prof Yemi Osinbajo has urged Nigeria youths  to join politics instead of sitting back to complain about bad leadership in the country. Osinbajo gave this advice at the emerging political leaders’ summit which held in Abuja on Wednesday,  22th November. Represented by Babafemi Ojudu, special adviser to the president on political affairs, Osinbajo said it was not enough for youth to always complain. He said the youths needed to break the status quo by taking the chance to be elected and create the transformation needed. “Youth have a challenge in their hands for the future of our country; so, I advise you not to sit down and fold your hands and be lamenting over bad leadership or politicians,” he said. Get down to business, organise and do something to become elected political youths; after all, Enahoro became a leader in this country at the age of 23 and later moved a motion for the nation’s independence at the age of 27. “The le...

NIGERIANS DONT WANT TO RETURN TO THEIR 'HUT' WHEN THEY SEE AMERICA–TRUMP

Nigerians have been described as people living in huts who don’t intend to return home whenever they visit America by the President of USA Donald Trump Trump has pushed controversial immigration policies since becoming American president in January. Amongst his first policies was to ban visits from several countries — mostly from the middle east. The policy has been overturned and upheld by different American courts. It was also gathered that Trump had a ready-made excuse for almost all the countries his controversial immigration policy targeted. He said he was banning people from Afghanistan because the country was a terrorist haven. When asked about why he was restricting people from Haiti, he described them as being infested with AIDS. On Nigerians, Mr. Trump said they would never “go back to their huts” in Africa, the Times reported, citing two officials who were presented at the meeting held in Mr. Trump’s office but who sought anonymity. Although some adminis...

5 ways to become more attractive to others

Feeling good about yourself makes you attractive to others. As you love yourself, life becomes less burdensome and relationships become easier and more spontaneous. You don’t spend your time second-guessing what others are thinking about you and where you stand in your various relationships. When you have an internal sturdiness deep within your core, you smoothly adapt to the inevitable ups and downs that come with relationships. Here are five ways anyone can make themselves more attractive in relationships. 1. Don’t take yourself so seriously. You do not have to be perfect to have solid relationships and love in your life. In fact, it’s being imperfect that puts people at ease. There is a kind of intimacy that takes hold, a sense that you can be open with this person because they are being open with you. Of course, it’s important to connect with supportive and non-toxic people. Generally speaking though, most of the time and with most people, the negative sentiments others ...
